StradaVX
Nissan Skyline GT-R prepared for the StradaVX preservation process

Preservation Without Compromise

Preserving a Skyline GT-R begins long before the first fastener is removed.

It begins with understanding the automobile, its history, and what should be restored, preserved, or remain untouched.

At StradaVX, every decision begins with respect for what Nissan created. Our purpose is not to replace the Skyline GT-R's identity with our own, but to preserve what Nissan created while making carefully considered improvements where they serve the automobile.

Understand Before Disassembly

Every Skyline GT-R arrives with a history. Some of that history can be seen. Some of it is discovered only through careful examination.

Before disassembly begins, the automobile is studied as a complete object so its condition, originality, factory details, modifications, and previous repairs can be understood.

  1. 01.
    Assess Its Condition.

The Skyline GT-R is examined as a complete automobile before individual components or assemblies are disturbed.

  2. 02.
    Understand Its Originality.

Original components, materials, finishes, markings, and surviving factory evidence are identified before intervention begins.

  3. 03.
    Identify Factory Details.

Construction details, hardware, routing, finishes, and assembly characteristics are recorded while their original context remains intact.

  4. 04.
    Document Previous Work.

Modifications, previous repairs, and other evidence of intervention are documented as part of the automobile’s existing history.

Document Before Intervention

Disassembly is not simply the process of taking an automobile apart. It is the beginning of understanding how it was built.

  1. 01.
    Record the Evidence.

Factory markings, original finishes, orientation, and installation details are documented before they can be disturbed.

  2. 02.
    Preserve Every Location.

Hardware, components, and their relationships are organized so their original positions remain part of the record.

  3. 03.
    Protect What May Disappear.

Details that restoration could otherwise erase are photographed and preserved as part of the automobile’s permanent history.

Components are carefully removed, identified, photographed, documented, and organized before restoration changes the evidence they retain.

Nothing is considered insignificant simply because it cannot be seen when the automobile is complete.

The Foundation

With the automobile carefully disassembled, attention turns to its foundation.

The body and chassis can now be examined without the distractions of decades of use.

Corrosion, previous repairs, structural damage, factory seams, mounting points, and original construction details each reveal part of the automobile's history.

The objective is not simply to create a beautiful surface. It is to restore structural integrity while respecting the methods, dimensions, and character of the original automobile.

The foundation must be worthy of everything that will eventually return to it.

Preserve Before Replacing

An original component carries something a replacement never can: History.

  1. 01.
    Clean & Refinish.

Metal components are carefully evaluated, cleaned, and refinished whenever their original material can be retained.

  2. 02.
    Restore & Rebuild.

Original hardware and assemblies are restored or rebuilt whenever doing so preserves the integrity of the automobile.

  3. 03.
    Replace Only When Necessary.

When an original component can no longer be responsibly preserved, Nissan and NISMO components are used wherever possible.

Mechanical Preservation

A Skyline GT-R was never meant to exist only as an object to be admired. It was engineered to be experienced.

Driveline components are inspected, restored, or rebuilt to preserve the direct mechanical character of the automobile.

Suspension.

Suspension systems are renewed according to need while respecting the geometry, balance, and behavior engineered by Nissan.

Braking Systems.

Braking components are restored or renewed to return the confidence and control expected from the Skyline GT-R.

Each mechanical system is inspected, restored, rebuilt, or renewed according to the needs of the individual automobile.

The objective is not to replace the GT-R's personality with our own. Whether preserved in original specification or carefully improved, every mechanical decision must remain faithful to the character of the automobile.

The Details You May Never See

Some of the most important work performed during a StradaVX Preservation may never be seen again once the automobile is assembled.

  • Fasteners.
  • Clips.
  • Brackets.
  • Seals.
  • Grommets.
  • Hoses.
  • Lines.
  • Factory-style finishes.
  • Routing.
  • Hardware orientation.

These details exist beneath carpets, behind panels, underneath the chassis, and deep within assemblies. Their invisibility does not make them less important.

We believe craftsmanship matters most when there is no expectation that anyone will ever see it.

Careful Reassembly

Eventually, thousands of individual pieces begin their journey back to becoming an automobile.

  1. 01.
    Return Every Component.

Every restored component must return to its proper place, preserving the relationships established by the original automobile.

  2. 02.
    Respect Every Fastener.

Every fastener must serve its intended purpose, with the correct hardware returning to the location for which it was designed.

  3. 03.
    Restore the Correct Routing.

Harnesses, hoses, and lines follow their correct paths so the organization and function of the original engineering are preserved.

  4. 04.
    Protect Fit & Finish.

Every panel must fit as it should, while restored surfaces are carefully protected as the automobile comes together.

Reassembly is where hundreds of individual preservation decisions must finally work together as one.

Accepted, Not Simply Completed

At StradaVX, completing a task does not mean the work has been accepted. Each stage of preservation carries responsibility.

The craftsman performing the work must be willing to place their name behind it. The craftsman receiving the automobile for the next stage must be willing to accept it.

If either believes the work does not meet the standard required of a StradaVX Preservation, the automobile does not move forward.

There is no schedule more important than doing the work correctly. No deadline more important than integrity.

No convenience more important than the automobile.

The Final Inspection

Completion is not defined by the installation of the final component. The automobile must be examined again as a whole.

Mechanical Operation.

Mechanical systems are evaluated together to confirm that the GT-R operates with the response, balance, and character intended by Nissan.

Panel Alignment.

Body panels, openings, and exterior fit are inspected for consistent alignment and proper relationship throughout the automobile.

Interior Fitment.

Interior panels, trim, controls, and fittings are checked to ensure each component sits and functions as it should.

Electrical Systems.

Electrical systems, lighting, instrumentation, switches, and associated functions are verified throughout the completed automobile.

Finishes & Hardware.

Visible and hidden finishes, fasteners, hardware, and final details are inspected for consistency, correctness, and craftsmanship.

Preservation Record.

Documentation, inspection records, component records, photographs, and final approvals are reviewed to ensure the automobile's preservation history is complete.

The details are inspected individually and collectively, including the driving characteristics that can only be evaluated once the Skyline GT-R is complete.

Excellence is not created by one extraordinary component. It is created when thousands of details are allowed to exist together without compromise.

Ready for Its Next Chapter

After final inspection, the preserved Skyline GT-R continues a story begun by Nissan's engineers, shaped by its craftspeople, and protected by generations of caretakers.
